Getting Around, Chimbote Travel and Chimbote Transport
(Chimbote, Ancash, Peru, PE)
The port of Chimbote is amongst Peru's most appealing and longest, stretching for many miles and offering a choice of boat trips and ferry transport, with ferries regularly travelling to and from nearby Salaverry. However, most visitors simply choose to travel around the Chimbote area and northerly coastline by using bus transport.
Typical of many cities in Peru, the bus terminals within Chimbote are to be found is some rather diverse locations. Bus transport is fairly seasonal, and as demand changes, so do the services provided. Alternatively, you can travel around by taxi for just a little more, using your own timetable.
Chimbote Travel and Transport: Travel by Air / Teniente FAP Jaime Montreuil Morales Airport (CHM) - Chimbote, Peru, PE
The historic Teniente FAP Jaime Montreuil Morales Airport has served the city of Chimbote and the Ancash Region for more than 50 years, although this facility is really rather small and does not handle any commercial flights. Therefore, it is far more likely that you will arrive in Trujillo's Capitán FAP Carlos Martinez de Pinillos International Airport to the north, or alternatively, the enormous Jorge Chávez International Airport in Lima, to the south.

Car rental in Peru doesn't really come highly recommended for several reasons. The roads tend to often be of a fairly poor quality, badly signposted and often extremely dusty. Therefore, more and more tourists who wish to travel around in a hire car are choosing to rent these vehicles, complete with driver. Whilst having your very own driver might sound somewhat extravagant, it is actually quite an affordable luxury in Peru.
