Chimbote Landmarks and Monuments

(Chimbote, Ancash, Peru)

Cathedral picture, showing surrounding plazaThe natural landmarks of Chimbote provide a beautiful backdrop to the city and much character. Standing high about the city of Chimbote is the very important landmark that is the Cerro de la Juventud (Mountain of Youth).

The rocky Isla Blanca literally translates as the White Island and lies alongside Chimbote, within the El Ferrol bay. Now very much an important ecological reserve and landmark in its own right, the island is connected by regular boat trips and remains uninhabited, except for its plentiful gulls, pelicans and other birds, whose huge quantities of white 'guano' (droppings) have earned the Isla Blanca its apt name.
